This sculptural study captures the idealized male form, drawing on classical representations of Adonis, the eternally youthful figure of Greek mythology. Revered in ancient mystery religions, Adonis symbolizes the cycle of life, death, and rebirth, often interpreted as a vegetation god whose renewal is tied to the rhythms of the natural world.

This torso study is inspired by classical forms and evokes works like Duquesnoy’s “Adonis” sculpture, housed in the Louvre Museum, Paris — a composition based on an ancient Roman torso, completed by the artist in the 17th century.
