VP44 / VP30 Diesel Injection Pump ECU Repair Service
For Bosch / Cummins PSG5-Type Pumps

This is a repair service for the electronic control unit (ECU / EDU) mounted on top of Bosch VP44 and VP30 (PSG5) diesel injection pumps, found on many diesel vehicles from the late 1990s to mid-2000s.

Common Symptoms:

• Vehicle cranks but won’t start

• Vehicle cuts out and fails to restart

• No fuel delivery from the injection pump

Common Fault Codes:

• P1551 / P1561 – Start conditions not met

• P1630 / P1631 – EDU malfunction or checksum error

• P1651 / P1661 – Fuel pump control error

What Causes the Problem?

Inside the EDU is a main power transistor that regulates fuel delivery. This component relies on fuel flow for cooling, but during certain conditions (e.g., deceleration or overrun), cooling is insufficient, causing the transistor to overheat and fail. Once damaged, the ECU can no longer operate the pump—resulting in a non-start situation.

Please Note:

This repair only applies to vehicles suffering from no-start due to the electronic control module.
If your vehicle is suffering from poor performance, excessive smoke, or mechanical issues in the pump itself, this repair will not resolve those faults.
